Q: How much will my system cost to operate?
A: The increase in your electric bill will be about $8/month for an average size system that is operated nightly. However, the size of the system, the amount of time the system is run each evening and the type of bulbs used in the system will directly impact this cost. During our onsite demonstration, we can more accurately estimate the monthly electricity cost that your system will consume.
Q: Why use halogen bulbs instead of LED bulbs?
A: LED bulbs are still very expensive and, in our opinion, have not been adequately field tested. Also, although the color of the LED has improved, halogens still offer the best color rendition possible to provide the best lightscape for your home.
Q: Would an LED bulb system cost less?
A: For installation, a halogen system is more cost effective as halogen fixtures and bulbs are about 5-10 times less expensive than LED fixtures and bulbs. However, an LED system consumes only about ¼ of the energy required to run a standard halogen system.
Q: Why does Entropic Accents use a low voltage system?
A: Low voltage systems are safer and much less invasive to install. The fixtures are essentially portable which makes future adjustments, additions and changes to the system much easier. Also, a low voltage system is much less expensive to install (on a per fixture basis) than line voltage.
Q: How long will the bulbs last?
A: The bulbs we use are rated for 5,000 to 20,000 lifetime hours depending on the bulb type. At an average of 4 hours run time per night, the average bulb life is 3-12 years.
Q: Are halogen bulbs expensive?
A: The high quality halogen and xelogen bulbs run from $8.00 to $12.00 each. Cheaper bulbs can be purchased but their life span and the quality of the reflector are not suitable in the high quality systems that Entropic Accents installs.
Q: Will the bulbs closest to the transformer be brighter?
A: No! We use the hub wiring method, with a multi-tap transformer. This ensures a uniform voltage to each bulb, which not only provides uniform brightness but also maximizes bulb life.
Q: How long is the warranty?
A: While many of our competitors use lower quality materials that do not have a lifetime warranty and require expensive repair and service visits, all of Entropic Accents fixtures, transformers and wire connectors that we install carry a manufacturers LIFETIME warranty. Any bulb failure within the first year is covered by Entropic Accents as a part of our complimentary maintenance program.
Q: How do I operate the system?
A: There are several ways available:
- A mechanical timer is standard with all systems. However, the mechanical timer must be reset with the seasons, time changes and power outages.
- An astronomical timer is a modest upgrade which allows the system to operate from sunset to whatever time it is programmed to turn off. By entering your latitude and longitude it automatically adjusts to your specific sunset time and even adjusts automatically for time changes.
- An indoor astronomical timer is a more costly unit but is portable inside the residence. In addition to all of the advantages of the “astronomical timer” it allows you to manually control your light system, which is a great security feature as well as a convenience if your company stays late!
